  • A female scarecrow pushing a lawnmower is dressed in a red polka-dot dress with a hat.
  • An old oak tree with bare branches stands in a field. In the distance, across the Straits of Juan de Fuca, the Oliympic Mountains are partially covered in snow.

  • Rows of lavender flowers growing on a farm with trees in the background. This landscape is similar to what might be seen in Provence.
  • A field of hay that has just been cut and is drying before being bailed. This classic scene, with a red barn and other farm buildings, is a prototypical farm in the United States.
  • A small lake at dawn on a late summer morning. Tendrils of dawn mist are still visible as it rises from the lake and the glow of the very early morning sun has warmed the color in the trees. This lake is on San Juan Island in Washington State.
  • A scarecrow in the shape of a woman. Fully clothed, with a dress and blouse, this scarecrow is attached to a post at the edge of a garden. Traditionally, on farms, these creations are expected to scare off crows and other birds.
  • A Washington State Ferry on a route in the San Juan Islands. These ferries carry both passengers and cars between the mainland and the islands.
